One of the biggest problems facing the real estate industry is the lack of agent and broker accountability.
Unfortunately, most consumers never realize what a poor job their agent has done for them unless the situation reaches a critical melt down. Example:
This morning I had to call an agent of another broker, Realty Executives Professional
(Isn’t that an ironic name), because she was not returning the calls of one of my agents. This was not my first call to this agent. Last Thursday I was asked if I could do something about the fact that this agent had stopped returning messages in the midst of a negotiation. Our client was still interested in purchasing the property and our agent wasn’t sure how to proceed.
Since the message I left for the agent on Thursday was not returned, on Friday I called the managing broker of Realty Executives Professional and left a message for him.
The following Monday I still hadn’t heard back from either the agent or managing broker so I tried the agent again. Success!
I asked her why she wasn’t returning our calls, had we done something wrong. She offered no excuses. I asked if her client was still interested in selling the property, he was. I told her our client was still interested in buying and asked her if my agent called her in the next five minutes would she take the call? She said she would.
I don’t know how this will all turn out, but the real tragedy is that the property owner will never know that this conversation took place.
